Small Group Workshop Lesson 3a: Balancing Challenge and Support in Coaching
Prework: Participate in a self-assessment of strengths and reflect on overuse/underuse of strengths (complete name/claim/aim and “basements and balconies” worksheets.) You can do this exercise with the results of any strengths assessment, although the names of the different strengths will differ between various tools. The key is to recognize when strengths resonate, and to reflect on how they can be used to success or excess in different situations and in pursuit of different goals.
Scenario: One member of the group should serve as coach, and another as the observer. The person being coached should share their name/claim/aim worksheet. The coach should help this person reflect on one of the goals they have previously set based on the issues that arise in considering their strengths. The observer should provide feedback. If time permits, change roles and coach another member of the group.
